PCMCIA Data Devices
PC card (formally known as PCMCIA card) is a common peripheral used for notebook and laptop computer long before the introduction of USB plug and play. These are normally credit card size devices (often comes in thick or thin form factors called Type I or Type II PCMCIA ) to offer memory expansion, extra storage space, network capability, modem dial-up or some other special functions.
Failure of PCMCIA devices used as data storage devices will result in loss of valuable data.
Some of the possible failures:
- Windows can no longer detect the PCMCIA devices
- Window Prompt to reformat the drive devices
- CRC read errors
- Garbage or strange characters instead of normal directory display
- System hangs when the device is accessed
